About Dr. Reed
Specialty Surgeon at MISH & Kansas Institute of Medicine
Dr. Reed, a Midwest native, graduated from the University of Rochester
in New York with degrees in both Chemistry and Biology. He joined the graduate program in Anatomy at Washington University Medical School
where he taught medical students while pursuing advanced studies.
He was accepted into medical school with advanced standing, graduating
in 1977 from the University of Missouri School of Medicine-Columbia,
where he remained for two years of General Surgery Residency.
Invited to join the Orthopedic Surgery Department of prestigious Duke University, he completed his Chief Residency in 1983 while serving as Orthopedic Surgeon and Flight Surgeon in the USAF. Ever since he
has practiced in the Kansas City Metro focusing upon spine
and upper extremity care.
A champion and teacher of surgical and facility innovations to better patient care, he has built hospitals, spine surgery programs and completed an MBA
Dr. William Reed a national leader in minimally invasive techniques
and spine arthroplasty (artificial disc replacements, cervical and lumbar),
he continues to teach, train and research in the realm of advancing
care for disabling spinal conditions.
Double Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Upper Extremity Surgery,
he has taken the delicacy of Hand Surgery techniques and daily applies it to provide a more comfortable surgery experience and more rapid recovery for
his patients while providing motion preservation whenever possible.
With the addition of an MBA from the top-ranked Olin School of Business
at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Reed is uniquely well prepared
to comprehend and help navigate the fiscal challenges of healthcare for his
patients. A proud USAF Veteran, he is enthusiastic, energetic and tireless
in his desire to be a supportive, contributing and valued member of the
medical staff.
